Chronic pain affects all aspects of one’s self-image, which includes movement. An essential part of recovering function and managing pain is learning how to move comfortably and safely. This workshop isn’t about exercise; it’s about movement and learning. Kinesiophobia, or fear of movement, can be effectively addressed through developing curiosity, awareness and attention to the quality of movement. The benefits to someone with chronic pain goes beyond moving and improves agency and confidence, and enlarges one’s self–image. The workshop has both lecture and experiential activities that are easy to do, pleasurable and inclusive.

About Deborah Bowes, DPT
Deborah Bowes is a Feldenkrais Teacher and Physical Therapist. She graduated in Physical Therapy from Columbia University, later earned a Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Shenandoah University in Virginia, and has a B.S. in Biology and Physical Education from Rhode Island College. She is a Certified Trainer of the Feldenkrais Method since 2000, and has taught in USA, Canada, Germany, Sweden, Australia and Colombia in over 32 training programs. She co-founded the San Francisco Feldenkrais Center for Movement and Awareness in 1988, She is adjunct faculty at Saybrook University, teaching Movement, Exercise and Health. Her doctoral research examined the effect of Feldenkrais Method for pelvic floor health.
