Marilyn S. Jacobs, Ph.D., ABPP is a clinical psychologist and psychoanalyst. Prior to this professional identity, she practiced emergency medicine as a physician’s assistant. She is in the private practice of pain psychology, providing psychological assessment and psychodynamic integrative psychotherapy in Los Angeles, CA. Dr. Jacobs is Assistant Professor in the Departments of Anesthesiology and Psychiatry/Biobehavioral Sciences at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA providing teaching and supervision to medical and psychology trainees. She has been a member of advisory panels which established pain management treatment guidelines for medical and industry entities She has provided lectures and participated in panels on topics in pain medicine/psychology for academic and conference setting. She served on the Board of Directors of Division 39 (Psychoanalysis) of the American Psychological Association and the American Board of Professional Psychology/Academy of Psychoanalysis. She is past Chairperson of the Committee on Psychoanalysis in Health Care and the International Relations Committee of Division 39. Dr. Jacobs has had an enduring interest in the social dynamics of professional groups and is a member of the A.K. Rice Institute for the Study of Social Systems and on the Board of Grex, the West Coast Affiliate.
