Rachel Zoffness PhD is a clinical psychologist, medical consultant, author and educator specializing in chronic pain and medical illness. She provides Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and other evidence-based treatments to youth and young adult chronic pain patients, serves as a consultant to hospitals and health professionals, and assists with the development of interdisciplinary, international pediatric pain programs. She was trained at Brown, Columbia, UCSD/SDSU, the NYU Child Study Center, St Luke’s Roosevelt Hospital, and the Mindful Center. Dr. Zoffness teaches medical school at UCSF-Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland, providing pain neuroscience education to medical interns and residents. In 2019 she authored The Chronic Pain and Illness Workbook for Teens. Dr. Z serves on the Steering Committee of the American Association of Pain Psychology (AAPP) and founded AAPP’s Pediatric Division, which she currently heads. Her hobbies include nature-nerding, hiking and chasing butterflies.
